The Mardi Himal Trek is one of the Annapurna region’s best-kept secrets. Opened for trekking in 2012, this hidden gem remains one of the least visited and most pristine trails in Nepal. If you are looking for an incredible alternative to the classic Annapurna Base Camp route, Mardi Himal delivers a raw, off-the-beaten-path experience through untouched wilderness.

From terraced rural villages to high alpine ridges, this short yet dramatic trek brings you face-to-face with soaring giants like Mount Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, and Mount Hiunchuli. Perfect for both first-time hikers and seasoned adventurers, it offers the ultimate snapshot of Nepal’s rural life, changing biodiversity, and high-altitude majesty.

Itinerary

Your journey kicks off with a scenic drive westward from the Kathmandu Valley to Pokhara. As you follow the winding paths of the picturesque Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers, you'll get your first taste of Nepal's stunning landscapes. Pokhara is a lakeside paradise framed by the breathtaking peaks of the Annapurna range, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Fishtail. Spend your evening relaxing by Phewa Lake or enjoying modern town amenities.rnTravel Timet6 to 7 hours driving (200 km). After an early breakfast, a brief drive brings us to Dhampus, the official starting point of our trekking trail. The trail immediately immerses you in the local culture as you walk through traditional Brahmin, Magar, and Gurung villages. From there, we push upward through lush rhododendron forests to Pothana before arriving at Deurali, where views of the high glaciers of Annapurna South await.rnrnStatst2 hours driving, 3u20134 hours trekking, 9 km distancernStayt Cozy Mountain LodgernMealstBreakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Leaving Deurali behind, we plunge into a peaceful, thick forest teeming with rich biodiversityu2014including rhododendron, birch, oak, maple, hemlock, and daphnia. Keep your camera ready; this dense canopy is home to diverse wildlife such as deer, monkeys, leopards, and various exotic bird species. We wrap up the day in the quiet clearing of Forest Camp.rnrnStatst5 to 6 hours trekking, 6 km distancernStayt Mountain LodgernMealstBreakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today the trail gets steeper and a bit more challenging as the path begins to narrow into an open ridgeline. As the dense woods open up into scrub forest and alpine meadows, you are rewarded with epic, close-up views of Mardi Himal and Machhapuchhre. Walking along the ridge gives you a dramatic bird's-eye view: look down to your left to spot the Modi Khola River valley, or look right to view the deep valleys of Mardi Khola and the Seti River. On clear days, you can see all the way back to Pokhara Valley.rnrnStatst4 to 5 hours trekking, 8.5 km distancernStayt High Camp Mountain LodgernMealstBreakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The big day! We wake up before dawn to catch a truly unforgettable sunrise over the Himalayas. Climbing along the narrow, dramatic ridge, we reach our ultimate destination: Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500m. Here, the sun lights up the massive face of Annapurna South while the distinct peak of Fishtail Mountain looms directly overhead. After soaking in the panoramic views, we head back down to High Camp for a well-deserved lunch before continuing our descent to the softer altitudes of Low Camp.rnrnStatst7 hours trekking, 10 km distancernStayt Low Camp Mountain LodgernMealstBreakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We begin with a steep descent through pristine forests until the trail opens up into a peaceful clearing. Continuing downward, we pass the hillside village of Siding and wind our way through the beautiful, traditional Gurung settlement of Landruk. Our target destination is Jhinu Danda, famous for its natural hot springs sitting right by the river. Drop your bags and take a long, therapeutic dip to soothe your trekking muscles.rnrnStatst7 hours trekking, 12 km distancernStayt Hotel Park Himalaya (Room with attached bathroom)rnMealstBreakfast, Lunch, Dinner

On our final day on the trail, we enjoy a pleasant, easy-going hike along the banks of the Modi River toward Siwa/Ghandruk Phedi.
